This is how you do a stealth DVD-Rom drive with a push switch mod. I didn't want to add a rubber or a spacer in between the push button and the front bay cover of my HAF 932 to open and close the DVD-Rom tray. I decided to re-route the switch to the back of the drive, so that i can have another switch hidden or placed at the back of the case or even at the bottom of the front 200mm fan cover.

You can mount the switch anywhere you want, i haven't decide where i want to place mine yet. I believe the DVD-Rom with a push switch mod will give you a rough idea. Hope it works for you and do let me know the outcome. Thanks.

Tools you need for this Stealth DVD rom with a switch mod

Now, here's how you do it.

Step 1 : Remove the front bezel cover of the DVD rom and the 4 screws at the bottom to remove the cover.
Step 2 : Drill a 3.5mm hole. View the image.
Step 3 : Drill another 3.5mm hole at the back.

Step 4 to 6 : Run the 2 wires from the back hole to the front hole and slide in 2 pieces of the heatshrink tubings Laughing
Note : No lubricant needed for this process Sealed

Step 7 to 8 : Apply a little solder to the tip of the wire.
Step 9 to 10 : Solder the 2 wires to the front most tip above the DVD tray switch. Do not let the wires or solder touch any other parts or circuits.
Step 11 : Apply heat to the heatshrink tubes. I used my wife's hair dryer!!!.

Step 12 to 14 : Re-Assemble the front panel cover and the bottom cover of the DVD Rom.

Step 15 to 16 : Solder the 2 wires that runs to the back to a push switch. I just made the length short for this tutorial. If you want, you can attach it to a female molex, then decide where you want the switch to be or you want to hide the switch, cut the required length and join them together. This will come in handy, if you need to remove the DVD-Rom later. If you prefer, you can even use a LED push switch.

Finally, let's put it to work...

OK, i've used an IDE DVD-Rom drive, but you can even use a SATA DVD-Rom. I hope you find this tutorial useful, do try and let me know the outcome. Good Luck!!!.

I'll be doing this mod for the HAF 932 project i am working on, need to remove the meshed drive bay covers and attach it to the DVD Rom tray. A double sided foam tape might just do the trick. I'll let you know once it's done.

I'll be uploading a video on my YouTube channel RonModz just to show you how this mod works. (The opening and closing of the tray using the push switch.)
